Spread across six sites along the Phillip Island South Coast, the re-envisioning of beach stair access explores the transition from street to beachscape. Each stairway is conceived as a sequence of moments – movement, passing and pause – guiding users through a layered spatial experience.
The stairs slip along the natural contours, fostering direct engagement with the surrounding landscape while the vertical battens create a sense of porosity and lightness. A restrained design and considered construction logic forms a methodology which is adaptable and responsively applied to the distinct conditions of each site.
