Somers Clifftop House

Somers Victoria, Australia

Embedded with the Mornington Peninsula landscape, Somers Clifftop house works alongside the surrounding topography in the pursuit to synchronize form and landscape. A series of terraces have been deployed to compartmentalize the project into a series of zones and enable its form to ground itself within the landscape.

As a unified gesture, the central void between two enclosed volumes provides a moment of relief, whilst providing sightlines to the ocean and landscape beyond. The projects surrounding landscape further contributes to its sense of enclosure, with each living space accessible to the surrounding context.

A recurrent theme of masonry constitutes the walls of the project, considered in its capacity to withstand harsh and corrosive coastal conditions whilst also leaning into its sense of place amidst its sandy context.
