Courtyard on the cliff

Somers Victoria, Australia

Courtyard on the cliff is a project focused on crafted and raw architecture, landscape, art, and quality. Situated on the Mornington Peninsula within the coastal cliffs of Somers.

A rammed earth courtyard house on a sloped cliff site, the project will serve as our family home, a design music studio, and a gathering space to host events and a home office. Raw stone tile floors and a altered internal landscape, an internal ramp shifts internal topography, raising the ground floor plane to a level one sightline, bringing the views eye to the horizon beyond and providing ocean views from two levels.

Designed to feel intimate, yet capable of hosting and entertaining. A central entertaining pavilion acts focal point towards the front garden and internal courtyard, creating a public space for gathering. Materials are honest, raw, and enduring. The project reflects a deep consideration of context, borrowing from the local context soil composition and to be built through a process centered on quality and spatial experience.
