Portsea House, 2021

Portsea Victoria, Australia

Nestled within the rugged coastal terrain at Portsea back beach on the Mornington Peninsula, Wildcoast responds to the temporal nature of its natural surrounds. The form is tucked away from the road, embedded within the dunes and revealed only through the erosion and movement of the surrounding landscape.

A robust facade has been designed to withstand, honour and reflect the harsh characteristics of the site. Concrete and glass allow the form to read as one mass, only breaking apart when seen from inside. Within the dwelling, an open-air atrium is the focal point for the home, the centre of light and activity, surrounded by a series of tiered levels that define spaces for living and sleeping. Views extend down the sloped site, through the home and out over the dunes to the ocean and surrounding landscape.
