Mornington House (Town Planning)

Mornington Victoria, Australia

Situated atop the cliffs of Mornington, a multi-level, layered home has been conceived to be both outward facing and internalised, maximising views of the bay and providing privacy from adjacent properties.

A material palette of oxidised concrete, stainless steel and tinted glass references the dark clay cliffs of the surrounding natural context and creates a dramatic backdrop to the living spaces.

An emphasis on blurring the boundaries between landscape with interiors is a key theme in the design. The bold facade appears to float upon a large boulder and is entered via a weaving garden path. Internally, vertical gardens transcend and connect levels, each bedroom expands to its own private courtyard and frameless glass provides uninterrupted views to the bay and surrounding landscape.
