Located in the leafy streets of Melbourne inner city, Garden House explores bold form and lush landscape.
From the street, the house sits confidentially blank, drawing interest in form, shadow, materiality and garden. Curved walls wrap and define the edge condition of the building and the level 1. From the street, the architecture provides privacy and establishes a condition of surprise. The ground floor is defined as a landscape, held by walls and vertically articulated by the 7m internal lightwell. The house comprises of a basement parking, ground for living and level 1 for sleeping. Throughout the project, careful consideration has been made to articulate the structure, control light and create a series of vary spaces and experiences.
The project acts as an extension of Eastbourne House, taking reference of Bruce Nauman, Room with My Soul Left Out, Room That Does Not Care, 1984, void and also Christo and Jeanne-Claude, The London Mastaba, Serpentine Lake, Hyde Park, 2016-18 in form.
